The Performance Shed opened its doors for business in 1987 by the husband and wife team of David and Kim Baker. But Yamaha was a part of both of their lives well before this time. In 1967 the Yamaha dealership in the Kingston area was opened by Kim's parents, Ian and Shirley Bell. The dealership was located in Seeley's Bay, Ontario and was called Ian's Cycle. For the next seven years Ian and Shirley grew their business and in 1974 decided to relocate to the Kingston Area. They opened up shop on Highway 38 (now Midland Ave.) just north of Highway 2 and there Ian's Cycle flourished.
Kim joined the family business in 1975 and worked in the parts and service department. In 1978 David Baker was hired as a mechanic. In 1987, Ian decided it was time to retire. The now husband and wife team of Dave and Kim purchased the business from Ian and renamed it The Performance Shed. The Performance Shed remained at the same location until 1989 when Dave and Kim decided that the business had outgrown its location and they needed more space. In the fall of 1989 the Bakers purchased the former Thompson Power Line building and after many renovations the business was moved to it's current location.
At this larger location, they became a dual dealership by adding Polaris to their line-up. But with Yamaha's ever increasing product lines it was decided in 1996 to sell the Polaris dealership and become an exclusive Yamaha dealer, offering a full line of snowmobiles, motorcycles, ATVs, generators, snowblowers, personal watercraft, boats, outboard motors, accessories, and more!
Carrying on the family tradition, Dave & Kim's sons Andrew and Kevin joined the business in 2009 and 2011.
